Tin Cup 20 Years Later: “this is our immortality”

00349202.JPG

Earlier this month when I got my hard copy of Golf Magazine I was treated to a great article by Chris Nashawaty and now finally it has been posted on Golf.com. (See, buying actual magazines still pays off.) This year marks the 20th anniversary of one of the most iconic golf movies ever made: Tin Cup. Nashawaty spent some time with many of the culprits that worked on the movie but from the sound of things it didn’t seem there… Continue Reading

Day Leads PLAYERS after Record Tying 63

day players 16

The PLAYERS Championship opened just as one would expect…sort of. If you put the best golfer in the world on a firm fast course with soft greens and only a slight breeze he’s going to go low. But a 63…amazing. Jason Day played up to his ranking as the top golfer in the world and scorched TPC Sawgrass with a course record tying round that had him in the lead by two strokes on a day that let dozens of… Continue Reading

Another “oldie but goodie” hosts the PGA Tour this week as Riviera Country Club and Hogan’s Alley welcome the PGA boys to the Northern Trust Open. Riviera boasts an impressive legacy. The classic George Thomas design has been home to the U.S. Open, PGA Championships and a U.S. Senior Open. Ben Hogan won his first U.S. Open here and past winners of the L.A. Open/Northern Trust include Byron Nelson, Sam Snead, Tom Watson, Nick Faldo and Phil Mickelson. With as… Continue Reading

Ramblings From the Easy Chair

spieth toc trophy

The 2016 PGA Tour season is finally underway with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions having just wrapped up four glorious sun filled days on the slopes of The Kapalua Plantation Course. I’ve always looked forward to that first week of January golf beamed direct from those lush fairways with incomparable views from the shores of Maui of humpbacks lolling about in the coves. And across the way the impressive hills of Molakai, as mysterious and marvelous a place as any… Continue Reading

Jordan Spieth Leads The Masters

spieth r1 2015 masters

It was a grand day at Augusta National with perfect scoring conditions and some stellar play from many players. Jordan Spieth leads by three shots and the leaderboard is jam packed with plenty of great players. While some big names could have taken better advantage of the day none of them really played themselves out of the tournament.  Here are the day one Winners & Losers at Augusta. Winners The Big 3: Arnie, Jack and Gary looked pretty spry for… Continue Reading

Ted Bishop: Phil Is the Boss of the Ryder Cup

ted-bishop-pga-america_t640

When former PGA President Ted Bishop was given the boot from the PGA after calling Ian Poulter a “lil girl” some may have thought that we had heard the last from the camera seeking Bishop. Well some guys don’t disappear that easy. Bishop, who never met a camera or microphone he didn’t like appears in the current issue of Sports Illustrated’s Golf+Digital as the author of his own article. The subject of his piece is his beloved Ryder Cup and… Continue Reading

PGA of America Showing Davis Some Love

dliii 2

Tim Rosafote reported on the Golf Channel last night that Davis Love III will be named as the 2016 Ryder Cup captain. Rosaforte’s report was based on his insider connections to the members of the Ryder Cup Task Force.  The PGA of America would not confirm the Love appointment saying “It is premature to discuss the U.S. Ryder Cup captaincy and we are not prepared to comment at this time.”  Love’s appointment comes as a bit of a surprise as… Continue Reading

Blast From the Past: The Skins Game

skins game logo

My kids usually laugh at me when I insert “back in the day” into any conversation. To them it’s a signal that I’m going to be reminiscing about a time that was so much better than the way things are done today. Sometimes I’m right, sometimes I’m not and most times I am just nostalgic. Thanksgiving weekend bought out one of those “back in the day” discussions.  Back in the day there really was no Black Friday. Stores were never,… Continue Reading

The 96th PGA Championship: Here’s Our Picks

by Jeff Skinner The PGA Championship tees off today so you know what’s coming. No, I don’t mean having to watch everyone of Tiger’s shot’s, that’s a given. I am talking about the much anticipated Links Life Golf Picks. Here’s the LLG gang’s picks to win “Glory’s Last Shot”. Most of the time there is more gore than glory when we pick but we do it anyway. Lil’ Skins likes Rory McIlroy to make it back to back majors and… Continue Reading

Martin Kaymer Dominates the U.S. Open

by Jeff Skinner Martin Kaymer continued his dominance over the field at the U.S. Open today in winning his second major championship by eight strokes. Kaymer wasn’t spectacular today but he had already been spectacular enough on Thursday and Friday. Kaymer had ridden the lead he crafted with opening 65’s and it was a cushion that was insurmountable if he could just manage to stay out of trouble. He did just that and a little more with his one under… Continue Reading
