Big Questions for 2017

woods-gd

The 2017 golf season is here and as we golf fanatics look towards the future there are plenty of questions for the upcoming season. Jaime Diaz of Golf World poses a few of those in his piece,”Golf’s 10 Biggest Questions for 2017.” He starts off with who will be the best player and names a few of the top players as candidates but my money is on Rory McIlroy. I think Rors is fed up with all the attention placed… Continue Reading

Butch Harmon Learned from the Best

butch smile

Butch Harmon has been voted the top golf instructor for what seems like forever. Few instructors/coaches/gurus, whatever you label them can boast such a heralded list of players that have heeded the gospel according to Butch. Of course there’s Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson and Greg Norman and Ernie Els and Freddy Couples. But there’s also Adam Scott, Davis Love III, Justin Rose, Stewart Cink, Rickie Fowler, Jimmy Walker, Lee Westwood, Dustin Johnson, Brandt Snedeker and Natalie Gulbis. And there… Continue Reading

Packed Leaderboard at The Masters

by Jeff Skinner This is what we want in our majors.  This is what we dream of for The Masters.  A leaderboard so stacked, so jammed, and so packed with great players that tomorrow can’t come soon enough. (Click here for the full leaderboard.) On a windblown day at Augusta National that saw plenty of bogeys, doubles and worse when all was said and done the leaderboard was indeed worthy of this prized major championship. Last night the leaders went… Continue Reading

14 Year Old Not Too Young for The Masters

by Jeff Skinner There were many great rounds of golf played over the hills of Augusta National today.  The relative unknown Mark Leishman made his early mark at The Masters with a six under 66.  A resurgent Sergio Garcia matched that to once again keep him in the race for that elusive first major championship.  Freddy Couples continues to amaze with a suspect back but a strong Masters game.  And Dustin Johnson continues to threaten to win a major sometime… Continue Reading

Bubba Watson Withdraws, Microphone and All

by Jeff Skinner Bubba Watson had to withdraw from The Northern Trust Open due to a strained stomach muscle after he posted a first round 76 testerday.  It’s unfortunate for Bubba as he has been playing well and was still riding his high from his win at Torrey Pines.  It’s also a bummer for us as The Golf Channel had Bubba “mic’d up” and we were getting plenty of chatter that we normally would never be able to hear.  Bubba had… Continue Reading

PGA Tour At Riviera: Hogan’s Alley

by Jeff Skinner Pebble Beach is a tough act to follow but the PGA Tour is up to this task this week when it visits another iconic gem of a course at Riviera Country Club.  It may not possess the breathtaking views of the Pacific but the course certainly rivals Pebble in history and design.  Players love playing here and architects love studying this 1926 George Thomas design.  Tom Fazio touched up Riviera in 2008 and Ben Crenshaw reworked the… Continue Reading

Erik Compton Makes His Mark

by Jeff Skinner It’s a busy week on all golfing fronts this week.  Freddy Couples is hosting the old guys at the U.S. Senior Championship in his hometown of Seattle.  The women are trying their hand at links golf at The Ricoh Women’s British Open over the links of Royal Birkdale in England and the European Tour is playing this week in Ireland.  The PGA Tour is breaking new ground at The Greenbrier Classic in West Virginia and it’s an… Continue Reading

The “New Look” Golf Shoe

We have all seen Freddy Couples sporting the low profile ecco’s this season, and it seems like the golf shoe will be taking on a much different look in the near future. Almost-Sponsor-Free Ryan Moore just signed an endorsement contract with TRUE linkswear golf shoes, and we are now seeing new brands like kikkor and even veteran brands like NIKE are introducing this “new look” to the golf shoe.  For those of you who were hoping to get some of… Continue Reading

Westwood Leads The Players Championship

by Jeff Skinner It’s not the leaderboard that Tim Finchem had envisioned at the start of the week at The Players Championship.  Of the top players within five strokes of leader Lee Westwood there are only ten Americans and none of them are named Mickelson or Woods.  Tiger and Phil have struggled with their swings and both sit nine shots back at three under par.  The Americans that are near the top aren’t the ones that drive up the television… Continue Reading

Chips Shots from The Masters

by Jeff Skinner Chip Shots From The Masters… Tom Watson has made it a habit of turning these majors into an AARP convention.  His is sixty and still playing competitive golf in the majors.  The USGA has to have him at Pebble Beach. Freddy Couples is having a dream year.  He’ll win on The Champions Tour and just might sneak a win on The PGA Tour.  It’s good to be Freddy. If you had to watch The Masters coverage with… Continue Reading
