The golf world was dealt an unexpected blow this week as Rory McIlroy announced he needed to withdraw from the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. McIlroy has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in one of his ribs and will need to rest to allow it to heal. There is no timetable for his return. The world number two had “toughed it out” by playing through the pain at the South African Open for a playoff loss to Graeme Storm and… Continue Reading

scott honda trophy

1. It goes to show you…you never know in this game. While all of us are crowning the twenty-somethings as the new Big 3 Adam Scott comes through and shows us what a 35 year old can do on a tough course. On Saturday with a quadruple bogey on fifteen he looked to have lost his chance. But a determined attitude and a new confidence with his putter allowed him to fight back and win for the first time since… Continue Reading

Tiger Woods Needs Less Thinking, More Swinging

Waste Management Phoenix Open - Round Two

On Wednesday Tiger Woods announced that he was taking time some time to work on his game. The last two weeks have been very disappointing to me, especially Torrey, because I never want to withdraw. Unfortunately, lately injuries have made that happen too often.  This latest injury is not related to my previous surgery. I am having daily physical therapy and I am feeling better every day.  Right now, I need a lot of work on my game, and to… Continue Reading

10 Things I Think…PLAYERS Championship Style

by Jeff Skinner 1.  At first Justin Rose wasn’t penalized on Saturday. Then after some rules official watching the European broadcast called his mates in the states and said he saw it move Rose was penalized. Then after the local authorities (PGA Tour & USGA) reviewed the video and their own rules again they withdrew the penalty. Glad to see I am not the only one that gets confused about the rules. 2.  Rory McIlroy stayed true to form this… Continue Reading

Tiger Woods Withdraws from The Arnold Palmer Invitational

by Jeff Skinner Tiger Woods is off to his worst season as a professional and it isn’t getting any better.  Woods had to withdraw from the Arnold Palmer Invitational due to his persistent back spasms. Woods had to pull out of the Honda Classic three weeks ago in the final round and his back started to spasm the next week at Doral forcing him to struggle to a 78, his worst final round score in his career. From Tiger’s website:… Continue Reading

Russell Henley Survives Bloody Honda Classic

by Jeff Skinner Over and over we hear how hard it is to win on the PGA Tour and today was proof of that, excruciating proof.   We saw player after player hit poor shot after poor shot at PGA National with Russell Henley hanging on to win the Honda Classic in a four man playoff. Henley was the last man standing after a quartet of golfers spilled more blood on the ground than the  warriors in Braveheart.  Henley, Ryan Palmer,… Continue Reading

Range Session Solid, Tiger’s Back…Not So Much

by Jeff Skinner I was lucky enough to be able to tune into The Golf Channel’s Pre-Game telecast today.  For the longest time they had cameras stationed on the practice range and we got to see most of Tiger Woods’ warm-up. Watching any of these talented pros up-close is a treat but watching the most scrutinized athlete in the world is special indeed.  Throw in the Pro-Tracer that tracks the ball flight and a few of The Golf Channel’s best… Continue Reading

Rory McIlroy Leads Honda Classic, Zach Johnson Survives

by Jeff Skinner The last time we saw Rory McIlroy at The Honda Classic he was walking off mid-round as his game had left him and his agent said he had a toothache.  Well, yesterday we saw the Rory McIlroy that has already won two majors and ascended to world number one. McIlroy shot a bogey free, seven under 63 that has him leading The Honda Classic by a stroke.  McIlroy has expelled the demons that haunted him last year… Continue Reading

The Secret Behind The Honda Classic

by Jeff Skinner This week we are treated to a very strong field of golfers on a very demanding course.  But it hasn’t always been that way.  This tournament had struggled to get top players to play in it for a long time.  There appears to be many reasons behind the growth of The Honda Classic.  While there are many factors that have contributed to The Honda being frequented by more and more top players they all start at one… Continue Reading
