A Crazy Sports Weekend & Those Damn Patriots

rahm

It was a wild weekend for golf as we saw some big names earn wins around the globe. I spent too much time watching the Golf Channel at all hours of the night hoping to catch some great golf and I wasn’t disappointed. First up was ’17 Masters champ Sergio Garcia with a five shot win at the Asian Tour’s SMBC Singapore Open. Sergio is riding high as he carries that green jacket around and has a new-found confident, relaxed… Continue Reading

Oh Yea…Knox Wins Travelers, But Furyk Makes History

furyk bald

It was quite a day for Russell Knox at the Travelers Championship just outside of Hartford, CT. Knox continued his hot play and backed up his Saturday 64 with a final round 68 to edge out University of Hartford grad, Jerry Kelly by a stroke in his old stomping grounds. Knox said he felt like a superhero after he dropped his inning putt on the 72nd hole. “I felt like the Incredible Hulk when it went in,” Knox said. “I… Continue Reading

The PLAYERS Primed for a Crazy Finish

THE PLAYERS Championship - Round Two

The stage is set for a wild Sunday at The PLAYERS with a leaderboard so crowded it’s anyone’s guess who will claim this victory. Chris Kirk has a one shot lead over the most tightly packed leaderboard of the season. There are thirty players within five shots of the lead and plenty more right behind them. But this PLAYERS has a different look from previous years. Kirk, himself no household name leads a group of lesser known players with a… Continue Reading

Chip Shots from The PLAYERS

na 15 players

Jordan Spieth misses the cut. Boy Wonder had a great run while it lasted but it was bound to end sometime. The mano y mano, Rory vs Jordan Death Match will have to wait. Phil Mickelson now has seven missed cuts at The PLAYERS to just three top tens. TPC Sawgrass is one tough course and it had Phil talking to himself,” I was thinking to myself as I was walking around, I can’t believe I’ve actually won here.” Next… Continue Reading

GMac Beats the Wind & Webb at The RBC Heritage

From PGA Tour.com: HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Graeme McDowell defeated fellow U.S. Open champ Webb Simpson in a playoff to win the RBC Heritage on Sunday for his second career victory on the PGA TOUR. McDowell was four shots behind when the round started, but rallied with a closing 69 over wind-blown Harbour Town Golf Links. The 2010 U.S. Open champ had his only bogey of the day on the 72nd hole to fall into a playoff with Simpson, the reigning… Continue Reading

Sawgrass Takes No Prisoners at The Players Championship

by Jeff Skinner What a difference a day makes, especially at The Players Championship.  There were some amazing turnarounds at Sawgrass as plenty of golfers got down to business, played some good golf and fought to make the cut. With the leaders at eight under par and the cut falling at even par no one is out of this tournament.  Most disappointing has to be the play of world number one Rory McIlroy.  Rory shot 72-76 to miss his third… Continue Reading

Clinton & Celebs at the Humana Challenge

by Jeff Skinner President Clinton has certainly taken a leading position in the rebuilding of the Humana Challenge.  He’s recruited Greg Norman and Phil Mickelson to play and used his connections to attract dozens of America’s most powerful people to participate in the many forums leading up to the tournament.  But when the tournament tees off he’ll be sitting out as he leaves the golf to the many celebrities and amateurs that will walk alongside the pros.  Maybe Clinton will… Continue Reading

Thoughts From The Deutsche Bank Championship

by Jeff Skinner Webb Simpson putted like a fiend down the stretch: long birdie on 18 in regulation and two clutch putts in the playoffs to give him his second PGA win. Someone on the PGA Tour needs to let Simpson’s wife know to control herself while on camera and her husband’s opponent makes a poor play.  That’s “bush league” for sure. Adam Scott’s putting has certainly improved with his long putter.  But that stance of his looks so uncomfortable.… Continue Reading

Major Changes at the PGA Championship

by Jeff Skinner You can’t tell the players without a scorecard as they say at a baseball game and that’s the way it was today at The  93rd PGA Championship. There were so many changes on the leaderboard today it looked like a Republican Presidential Nominating Convention.  Leader Steve Stricker and his fellow cheesehead Jerry Kelly felt the wrath of The Atlantic Athletic Club and carded rounds of three over par and slipped down the leaderboard.  Their places were taken… Continue Reading

Stricker Leads Fortysomethings After Day One

by Jeff Skinner It looks as if the youth movement in golf decided to take a day off today at The PGA Championship.   Surprisingly, the top four spots were all occupied by “fortysomethings.”  Steve Stricker shot a record tying 63 and he’s a young 44.  His pal Jerry Kelly, who is the same age, got around in five under 65.  Forty two year old, former PGA Champ, Shaun Micheel was three back of Stricker with a 66. Scott Verplanck wanted… Continue Reading
