My Scotland Adventure…Nairn Golf Club

dsc00965

Our Scotland adventure continued with a trip along the Moray Firth to another classic, historic links course, The Nairn Golf Club. Nairn has a wonderful pedigree and is consistently ranked as one of the best links courses in Scotland. With icons like Archie Simpson, Old Tom Morris and James Braid all having spent time designing or altering the layout over the years Nairn’s lineage is unrivaled. We were coming off our 36 hole day at Royal Dornoch and so very… Continue Reading

A Quick 9…

by Jeff Skinner David Toms must have been in a hurry to get his final round at Kapalua out of the way so he could catch all the pre-game for his beloved LSU Tigers against Alabama.  Toms made it around the Plantation Course, by himself in two hours and thirty one minutes.  Too bad his Tigers were rolled over by the Crimson Tide. On the contrary, the Jonathan Byrd/Steve Stricker pairing seemed to be taking forever to move over the… Continue Reading

The PGA Tour in Paradise & Prime Time

by Jeff Skinner Oh, the poor life of a 2011 PGA Tour Champion.  With all their holiday celebrations now a thing of the past, this week they get to start their “Happy New Year” on the PGA Tour.  Twenty eight of last season’s winners have to drag themselves away from the comfort and relaxation of their homes and get back to work. Yes, those unfortunate golfers have to start their season in the sun and warmth of Hawaii, away from… Continue Reading

New Era in American Golf

by Jeff Skinner As soon as Dustin Johnson walked of the green after winning The Barclays last week the talk started again.  You know, that talk, the “he’s the best young American” talk.  With Tiger Woods failing to fill his role as the dominating force in golf, we are left with much debate as to who the best young American golfer is. Johnson is definitely in the discussion but it’s a broad discussion.  He has five PGA Tour wins and… Continue Reading

Lucas Glover “Finds It” at Quail Hollow

by Jeff Skinner Lucas Glover finally found a way to win again on The PGA Tour and he does it against his good friend and college teammate Jonathan Byrd.  Glover and Byrd wound up tied after regulation play at The Wells Fargo Championship and marched off to a playoff together just like it was a practice round at Clemson. Glover figures they have played over 100 rounds together but this sudden death playoff was definitely for the biggest stakes yet. … Continue Reading

Byrd Wins but McDowell & Johnson are the Studs

by Jeff Skinner The PGA Tour is a long, long season and no one is more thankful for that then Jonathan Byrd and Robert Garrigus.  Both of them qualified for The Hyundai Tournament of Champions by winning during The Fall Series when most of the PGA Tour heavyweights were home resting.  Byrd won the Timberlake and Garrigus salvaged his season by winning at Disney the last tournament of the season.  They both certainly made the most of their trip to… Continue Reading

Tiger, The Roc, The Ladies, White Drivers & The PGA at Kapalua

by Jeff Skinner There was plenty of news in the golf world as the PGA Tour opened up the season in Hawaii at The Tournament of Champions.  In addition to the guys playing Kapalua with Jonathan Byrd and Carl Pettersson sharing the first round lead at seven under, there was news from The LPGA, Tiger and even Rocco gets a bit of the spotlight. Did you see Dustin Johnson and Jason Day rocking the white TaylorMade drivers?  It has some… Continue Reading

PGA Tour 2010: A Unique Season

by Jeff Skinner Story of the Year: What else can it be but Tiger-Gate! Tiger and his Escalade and escapades dominated the news on and off the course all season.  Beware…Tiger’s game is coming around and 2011 will have little in common with is 2010 season. Player of the Year: Jim Furyk was the only three time winner on tour and he took home the FedEx Cup and Tour Championship, a great year for a great guy. Shot of the… Continue Reading

Shot In The Dark Turns Into An Ace

by Jeff Skinner The PGA Tour’s Fall Series has a tough task: going head to head with the NFL on Sunday afternoons.  It’s pretty tough to attract any viewers while the boys of the NFL are conducting their business.  Late Sunday afternoon the boys of the PGA Tour gave those diehard PGA Tour fans their money’s worth when Jonathan Byrd aced the fourth playoff hole to win the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Children Open. Byrd beat Martin Laird and… Continue Reading

Players Championship is for the Birds

by Jeff Skinner It was a very interesting day at the Players Championship on Thursday. The tournament may have been mistaken for an Audubon Society Convention at Sawgrass yesterday. On the leader board you could spot a Crane, a Byrd and a Goose. Ben Crane used only 22 putts to go seven under for a one stroke lead. Jonathan Byrd and Retief Goosen were in a group of nine players two strokes back tied for fifth. Tied for second were… Continue Reading
