DJ Wins But Pat Perez Really Doesn’t Care

perez hips

Dustin Johnson looked to be in fine form this week as he lapped the winners only field at the Sentry Tournament of Champions by eight strokes. DJ was killing it all week as the wide fairways at Kapalua welcomed his mammoth drives and he rarely missed any shots. We are all familiar with the friendly confines of The Plantation Course as is DJ who won here for the second time and his seventeenth PGA win overall. But after the first… Continue Reading

Search for Golf Weather Elusive

therm cold

It was 2 below zero when I woke up at my frozen Massachusetts home on the morning of  New Year’s Eve but I wasn’t fazed at all because I was headed for green pastures, warm ocean breezes and all the golf I could play. Florida here we come! My better half and I spent a brief, but lovely, layover on New Years’ Eve in Metro New York, enjoying holiday libations in the company of my brothers and sisters as we… Continue Reading

Golf In Paradise Can Warm Frozen North

justin toc

It’s that time of year again. As we here in the Northeast brace for another bout of record cold temperatures our focus turns from extra sweaters and icy sidewalks to that classic winter tradition that warms all of us:golf from Hawaii. We start the golfing year (this is he real start for me, unlike the PGA Tour) this week with the Sentry Tournament of Champions from the picturesque island of Maui and the iconic Plantation Course at Kapalua. Most of… Continue Reading

A Great Holiday Tradition: Prime Time Golf from Hawaii

kapalua18

The past few weeks have been full of family, food and fun as our holiday traditions started in mid December and spread right through to early January. It has been great and another of our traditions takes center stage this week: prime time golf from Hawaii. Oh, how I have come to treasure the PGA Tour’s early start in paradise at the SBS Tournament of Champions. It’s just the fix needed for a golf starved, house bound fanatic. I am… Continue Reading

Ramblings From the Easy Chair

spieth toc trophy

The 2016 PGA Tour season is finally underway with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions having just wrapped up four glorious sun filled days on the slopes of The Kapalua Plantation Course. I’ve always looked forward to that first week of January golf beamed direct from those lush fairways with incomparable views from the shores of Maui of humpbacks lolling about in the coves. And across the way the impressive hills of Molakai, as mysterious and marvelous a place as any… Continue Reading

Spieth Just Continues to Amaze

spieth TOC

Jordan Spieth has picked up right where he left off from last year.  He sizzled again at Kapalua’s Plantation Course shooting an eight under 65 to get him to -24 and a five stroke lead over Brooks Koepka. On Friday Spieth joked how it would be great to get to 32 under par and beat Ernie Els’ tournament record by a shot.  But he did so with a smile on his face.  Well, The Golden Child, as buddy Justin Thomas… Continue Reading

rolfing

The boys of the PGA Tour open up 2016 today at the Tournament of Champions on the beautiful island of Maui. Few courses in the world will off the views from Kapalua’s Plantation Course and with a stacked field of the tour’s top golfers it’s sure to be a treat. Another view that everyone in the golf world will be happy to see is that of Mark Rolfing roaming the course once again. Rolfing is making his first appearance since… Continue Reading

Monday Chip Shots

Lydia Ko

Lydia Ko just keeps adding to her legacy. That’s if it’s possible for an 18 year old to have a legacy. She celebrated her birthday over the weekend and promptly defends her title at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic. And she didn’t have her best stuff. Morgan Pressel had the tournament in hand and a two shot lead until two late bogeys did her in. That’s part of the game and for Ko just hanging around earned her another LPGA… Continue Reading

Patrick Reed Wins Hyundai Tournament of Champions

patrick reed TOC 1

If you’re going to talk the talk you’ve got to walk the walk…as they say. Patrick Reed talks the talk. Patrick Reed walks the walk. At the Hyundai Tournament of Champions Reed started the final round two shots off the lead. On the fourteenth hole he was four shots back. That’s when things got interesting at Kapalua. Reed managed two birdies, a bogey and an amazing eagle over the last four holes and while he was walking his walk Jimmy… Continue Reading

Welcome to 2015: The Hyundai Tournament of Champions

Geoff Ogilvy tees off on the 18th hole.

For many of us this is the first day back to work in 2015. After a nice long holiday break away from our everyday jobs it’s time to get in our old routine and head back to work. It’s much the same on the PGA Tour. After their end of the year break the PGA Tour kicks off the New Year in style in Hawaii at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Even though the all powerful PGA Tour can declare… Continue Reading
