Li Holds Off McIlroy’s Comeback

rory omega

If you got up early this morning to catch the European Tour’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic you weren’t disappointed. Heck, I was already fired up from watching Roger Federer win his 20th tennis major at the Australian Open so I tuned into The Golf Channel’s early morning telecast and watched another former number one make his comeback.  Who needs sleep anyway? While the world is focused on Tiger Woods in San Diego Rory McIlroy is well on his way to… Continue Reading

dj-bmw

Dustin Johnson continued his stellar play yesterday at the BMW Championship and turned his three shot lead into his margin of victory for his third win of the season. He also may have positioned himself as the front runner for Player of the Year with a major (U.S. Open ) a WGC (Bridgestone) and now a FedEx Cup Playoff event. The tag line for BMW, the cars, is “The Ultimate Driving Machine.” And that may as well be Johnson’s nickname… Continue Reading

Golf in the Olympics: I’m Done…for Now

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy speaks t

Let it be known that this will be my last piece with any mention of the Olympics, golf in the Olympics, players in the Olympics, players not in the Olympics, the Olympic Flame, the Olympic Rings, Olympic Paint…anything Olympic…at least until we crown the Champion Golfer of the Year. All this Olympic baloney is taking the focus away from the oldest and maybe the greatest major of them all. That being said I need to vent for a bit before… Continue Reading

Day Leads PLAYERS after Record Tying 63

day players 16

The PLAYERS Championship opened just as one would expect…sort of. If you put the best golfer in the world on a firm fast course with soft greens and only a slight breeze he’s going to go low. But a 63…amazing. Jason Day played up to his ranking as the top golfer in the world and scorched TPC Sawgrass with a course record tying round that had him in the lead by two strokes on a day that let dozens of… Continue Reading

It looked like one great celebration on Sunday night as Willett and his mates partied until dawn.  Yes, they are singing “Walking in a Willett Wonderland.” A pair of the Links Life Golf Crew are busy celebrating also as for the first time ever we had a tie atop the leaderboard. Lil’ Skins and G. Rennie both tied for first place with $1,147,000 even though they… Continue Reading

Day 2 Takeaways from Chambers Bay: Brown Greens & Short Skirts

spieth day 2 open

For all the crying about the greens at Chambers Bay the greens seemed to play a bit better today. Of course there will be a differences from early morning to late afternoon but there isn’t a course on this planet that can avoid that. But all the players play the same course and whatever happened to “you play the course as you found it.” So Chambers Bay isn’t Augusta National and that’s a good thing. Golf courses are faced with… Continue Reading

rory wells fargo

To no one’s surprise Rory McIlroy won the Wells Fargo Championship today, or should I say he actually won it on Saturday. golf mag wie

Just about the same time Golf Magazine, the printed version, was hitting our mailboxes Michelle Wie was teeing it up at the LPGA’s Kingsmill Championship.
