10 Things I Think

phil sly

1. Sunday started with the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open and the Golf Channel team earned its money. They say you can have all four seasons in one day in Ireland and that’s just what happened. Rain, heavy rain, thunder, lightning, hail, (yes hail) were featured during the final round as Rory McIlroy surged and Danny Willett faded. And Willett finished up in sunshine and short sleeves on a day that’s a weatherman’s dream. Amazing. 2. What really was amazing… Continue Reading

10 Things I Think

rolfing

1. I watched a lot of golf this week and one of the strangest things I saw was Jordan Spieth’s fill in caddie. His usual bag man, Mike Greller was home nursing a sore ankle. So his agent, Jay Dansi, the guy who signed him up to play Singapore was pressed into service as his caddie. It was hot, humid and the heat index was over 100. A bit of irony surrounded Dansi as he humped that bag around all week.… Continue Reading

Must Watch Golf…All Weekend

spieth singapore

Usually on Monday morning I’ll cruise through the all the golf sites to get the inside story from the weekend. But this morning, quite frankly my head is spinning. What a crazy golf weekend. And it’s not over as the boys of the PGA Tour still have to complete the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open. It was a smorgasbord of golf and we got to see golf 24 hours a day as the tournaments circled the globe. It… Continue Reading

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner…with a Side of Bacon

bacon pants

David Lingmerth was 0-2 in playoffs going into his duel with Justin Rise. His solid ball striking supported by a healthy dose of good old fashioned guts helped him beat Rose on the third hole of the playoff.  Winning The Memorial at Jack’s Place with the Greatest of All Time shaking your hand as the winner is one special day. Now that’s a first time PGA Tour win worth remembering. Suzann Pettersen has had some ups and downs recently. Winless… Continue Reading

A Great Day for Woods…Cheyenne Yes, Tiger Not So Much

cheyenne woods manulife

It was a tale of two cities for the Woods family today as Cheyenne outshined her uncle Tiger. In Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Cheyenne Woods carved out a share of the lead at the LPGA’s Manulife LPGA Classic while 380 miles to the south at The Memorial her uncle Tiger hooked and sliced his way to a share of 85th place.  Things were a bit different for the Woods today. LPGA rookie Cheyenne played a near flawless round with eight birdies,… Continue Reading

Ten Things I Think

rory irish open

1.  Is it me or is there something very strange about The Duty Free Dubai Irish Open? Dubai Irish Open…hmm. I know that the European Tour gets millions from Dubai and it is their largest sponsor but that just sounds so strange. 2.  With all due respect to Soren Kjeldsen I feel a bit sorry for those hearty golf fans who braved the difficult weather at Royal County Down to be left with a playoff between Bernd Wiesberger, Eddie Pepperell… Continue Reading

Monday Chip Shots

Lydia Ko

Lydia Ko just keeps adding to her legacy. That’s if it’s possible for an 18 year old to have a legacy. She celebrated her birthday over the weekend and promptly defends her title at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic. And she didn’t have her best stuff. Morgan Pressel had the tournament in hand and a two shot lead until two late bogeys did her in. That’s part of the game and for Ko just hanging around earned her another LPGA… Continue Reading

Lahiri, Kim, Goydos & Day, Winners All

day farmers board

It was a long Sunday of golf watching for us fans of the great, but most aggravating of games. The action started early on The Golf Channel with coverage of the European Tour’s Maybank Malaysian Open. The stage was set for Bernd Wiesberger to claim his third Euro Tour win but he stumbled to a two over 74. That opened the door and a young, rookie fresh out of qualifying school. India’s Anirban lahiri stepped up and cared a solid… Continue Reading

A Dozen Things I Think

by Jeff Skinner 1.  The funniest thing I saw all week was the timing of Caroline Wozniacki changing her picture on her Twitter account. Click here, you must see this. She’s posing as a witch over a cauldron, all Bubble, Bubble Toil and Trouble like. Rory immediately shot himself out of The Memorial with a 43 on his front nine in round two. Strange isn’t it? 2.  So Phil Mickelson spends more time denying any wrongdoing in an insider trading… Continue Reading

Stacy Lewis Wins in AC, Back to No.1

by Jeff Skinner Thousands of people head to Atlantic City each year to try their luck in the casinos and spend some time at the beach. Stacy Lewis’ weekend in Atlantic City finished with a Sunday that wasn’t a gamble at all and was as relaxing as a day at the beach. At least she made it look that way.  Starting the day with a one shot lead over the resurgent Christina Kim, Lewis pulled away from the field and… Continue Reading
