My Scotland Adventure…Nairn Golf Club

dsc00965

Our Scotland adventure continued with a trip along the Moray Firth to another classic, historic links course, The Nairn Golf Club. Nairn has a wonderful pedigree and is consistently ranked as one of the best links courses in Scotland. With icons like Archie Simpson, Old Tom Morris and James Braid all having spent time designing or altering the layout over the years Nairn’s lineage is unrivaled. We were coming off our 36 hole day at Royal Dornoch and so very… Continue Reading

The Rory Story

rory open press

With controversy swirling at Royal Troon in the wake of statements from two of golf’s top players it’s time to cut through the PR and marketing BS and speak plainly. Rory got it right and we all owe him a big “Thank You”for his candor even though it’s come a bit late and has become a distraction on the eve of the OPEN. None of the elite golfers in our game  (or any golfer, for that mater) has grown up… Continue Reading

Branden Grace Wins RBC Heritage

grace rbc

It was a tough day for third round leader, Luke Donald at the RBC Heritage. The former world number one could only manage an even par 71 round as everyone around him was shooting under par. Branden Grace was the prime recipient of Donald’s indifferent play as the South African went low with a closing 66 to come from three shots back to give him his first PGA Tour win. Many will remember Grace from last year’s U.S. Open when… Continue Reading

Ten years ago this week Jack Nicklaus took one last walk over the Swilcan Bridge as a professional.  Paired with Luke Donald and good friend Tom Watson, Nicklaus did his best to stay in control during his eighteen hole victory.  Watson wasn’t so lucky as he said he had tears in his eyes for the entire round. St. Andrews has a special place in Jack’s heart and he wanted his last round to be at the Home of Golf. Nicklaus… Continue Reading

Day 2 Winners & Losers at The Masters

masters logo green

Winners Jordan Spieth is playing like he’s been at Augusta all his life. But he’s had only six rounds in competition. If the next two are anything like the first two the field is playing for second place. 64, 66 to open has never been done before and he looks so confident even a few burps won’t derail him. There is a great tournament going on at Augusta…for second place right now. Charley Hoffman, Dustin Johnson, Paul Casey and Phil… Continue Reading

McGinely Tabs Poulter, Westwood & Gallacher as Ryder Cup Picks

by Jeff Skinner Paul McGinely ended the speculation this morning as he made his final selections for his 2014 Ryder Cup Team. The lucky trio of players to join Team Europe in Gleneagles is Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and hometown boy Stephen Gallacher.  McGinely expressed what a difficult task it was due to the fact that so many European Tour players had played so well in the run-up to the Ryder Cup. A Super Sunday for Golf

by Jeff Skinner There’s no other way to say it. What a Sunday in golf! Golf fans were treated to a Sunday like few others as tournament after tournament came down to the wire with exciting finishes by popular players. It was still early in the day here in the states when the boys of the European Tour made their way around a soggy Wentworth Club for their premier event the BMW PGA Championship. It looked like a great story… Continue Reading

Matt Kuchar Wins RBC Heritage for 7th PGA Tour Win

by Jeff Skinner Matt Kuchar is known as one of the nice guys on the PGA Tour.  He is polite, kind, thoughtful and the worst you hear out of his mouth is a “gosh darn” or a “golly gee” when he happens to miss a shot.  He is also known as a top ten machine as he racks up top finish after top finish.  Recently he was on the brink of getting the reputation of not being able to close… Continue Reading

Bubba Watson Leads Another Tough Day at The Masters

by Jeff Skinner Augusta National played like Augusta National again today and frustrated many of the best golfers in the world.  Firm and fast greens seemed to be the demise of many of the big names as shot after shot looked to want to settle anywhere except on the green.  Statistically the course played slightly easier today with an average score of 74.08 compared to 74.47 yesterday.  But don’t ask Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson and Ernie Els if… Continue Reading
