The Golfer’s Journal

tgj

A pleasant surprise appeared in my mail this week, a belated Christmas gift from son number two: The Golfer’s Journal. I wasn’t really aware of such a publication but it’s another creation of the folks at Linksoul, the publisher of The Surfer’s Journal and a host of creative types who love golf for its soul and not its commercial viability. John Ashworth and his crew at Linksoul do things differently and that stays true with The Golfer’s Journal. It’s more… Continue Reading

Can Dustin Johnson Win His Major this Year?

Dustin Johnson

As we inch closer to the next major the boys of the PGA Tour are busy getting a look at Chambers Bay and honing their game at this week’s Memorial Tournament. One of the favorites at the U.S. Open, and this and every other week on tour is Dustin Johnson. DJ has a game that can win anywhere and on occasion he does. But he still remains one of those at the top of the list of the best players… Continue Reading

Honma Golf: Seriously Pimped Out Clubs

honma 7 iron

The golf season may be officially over for most of us that live up north but that can’t stop us from trying to squeeze in a bonus round before another snow closes all the courses. This time of year we think about how next season will be different. We’ll play better, play more and have more fun. We also think about some equipment upgrades and it won’t be long before we get those “New Equipment” issues of our favorite golf… Continue Reading

Phil Mickelson: Golf Magazine’s Player of the Year

by Jeff Skinner The boys at Golf Magazine took a bold step in their December issue.   Going against popular thought, they named Phil Mickelson their Player of the Year.  The PGA Tour Players voted five time winner Tiger Woods as their Player of the Year but Golf Magazine incorporated a different criteria in selecting Phil.  His three world wide wins, including his astounding Open Championship was enough for them to choose Phil’s flair over Tiger’s numbers. We’re going beyond shots… Continue Reading

The Best Job In Golf

by Jeff Skinner I am like a lot of golf junkies.  The Golf Channel is always on in my house, even if it is a re-run of Caddyshack.  I should say especially if it’s a re-run of Caddyshack.  I’ll spend some time each day surfing the web reading anything and everything golf.  I have spent time on every golf website, blog, newspaper and digital magazine throughout the world.  I’m a addict and I have no desire to be cured. I… Continue Reading

Feinstein’s Latest, A Chapter on Tiger Woods

by Jeff Skinner It doesn’t matter if Tiger Woods plays golf, doesn’t play golf, wins tournaments or doesn’t win tournaments he is still the biggest thing in the world of golf.  Whether he wins or loses, plays or sits home he is the number one topic in most golf circles.  CBS, NBC and ABC all take heat during broadcasts when all they show is Tiger Woods.  Sometimes The Golf Channel seems like The Tiger Channel and every writer, analyst and… Continue Reading

A Club Pro Takes On Jack Nicklaus

by Jeff Skinner Like any true golf fanatic I spend plenty of time reading just about anything on my favorite topic.  In print or on the Web, it doesn’t matter, I can’t get enough.  I have stacks of magazines which I refuse to get rid of until I read them cover to cover, at least a few times. I came across a great piece in an old Links Magazine.  Mark Steinbauer a club professional at The Club at Carlton Woods… Continue Reading

Play Pebble Beach For Free!

by Jeff Skinner Each and every golf media outlet has given us their “U.S. Open Preview” in preparation for next week’s Open at Pebble Beach.  One of the best I found is on The Golf Digest/Golf World website.  It’s an interactive tour of Pebble Beach with hole by hole video flyovers.  I have read every preview in all the magazines but you know what they say about a picture being worth a thousand words.  It’s very true in this instance. … Continue Reading
