Team USA Delivers an Amazing Victory at The Solheim Cup

The Solheim Cup - Day Three

The American Solheim Cup Team pulled off an Brookline-like comeback today at the 2015 Solheim Cup to break the European Team’s hold on the cup. Faced with the almost insurmountable and memorable deficit of 10-6 the ladies of Team USA were in need of a Ben Crenshaw style miracle. Well, Juli Inkster isn’t Gentle Ben but she’ll go down in history as having as much faith in her troops as he did and that faith was well founded. Team USA… Continue Reading

Lydia Ko Wins First Major at Evian Championship

ko evian

Some traditionalists had issues when the LPGA declared that the Evian Championship it newest and fifth major championship. Somehow I don’t think Lydia Ko had any objections. Ko re-wrote another line in the record book yesterday as she became the youngest major winner, male or female in modern golf. At 18 years and 4 months she eclipsed Morgan Pressel by six months. The youngest male golfer to win a major was Young Tom Morris way back in 1868 when sheep… Continue Reading

U.S. Women’s Open: Back to a Traditional USGA Setup

open logo 2

Last year the USA made history by playing both the men’s and women’s U.S. Open’s on the same course in back to back weeks.  This year the USGA went back to its normal routine with different weeks and venues and the truth is the courses couldn’t be more different. The men played on a baked out, extra firm, mostly brown links layout that many players labeled ridiculous. There will be none of that this week. The Lancaster Country Club, hosting… Continue Reading

Monday Chip Shots

Lydia Ko

Lydia Ko just keeps adding to her legacy. That’s if it’s possible for an 18 year old to have a legacy. She celebrated her birthday over the weekend and promptly defends her title at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic. And she didn’t have her best stuff. Morgan Pressel had the tournament in hand and a two shot lead until two late bogeys did her in. That’s part of the game and for Ko just hanging around earned her another LPGA… Continue Reading

Two Classics: Sirak & Jenkins

One of the great sportswriters of our time was honored last night with the PGA of America Lifetime Achievement in Journalism at the annual Golf Writers Association of America dinner in Augusta. Sirak doesn’t just write about the PGA Tour and the men that dominate the headlines. He covers the business side of the game, the amateurs and most importantly the women in the game. The LPGA, LET and the women that make up those sometimes overlooked tours have been… Continue Reading

Her eagle tied her with Lewis and with Lewis unable to birdie the last off to the playoff they went. From AP: Brittany Lincicome ended up in Poppie’s Pond for the second time in her career… Continue Reading

Lexi Thompson’s Major Leap

by Jeff Skinner The first major of the year had a star-studded leaderboard to start yesterday with two of the biggest names on the LPGA Tour going head to head it what could have been a classic showdown.  Michelle Wie and Lexi Thompson started the day tied for the lead at The Kraft Nabisco Championship with both looking for their first major championship. But there wasn’t much of a competition as Thompson pulled away from Wie with an front nine… Continue Reading

Lydia Ko Welcomed to LPGA Tour

by Jeff Skinner There is good news for Lydia Ko and great news for the LPGA Tour.  Commissioner Michael Whan has approved Ko’s petition to join the LPGA as a professional.  Ko who is 16 has already won twice on the LPGA and once on the LET needed a special exemption to join the tour before the normally required age of 18. Ko has proven she’s a force on the course as she has risen to fifth in the Rolex… Continue Reading

American Studs Disappoint at Solheim Cup

by Jeff Skinner All week Captain Liselotte Nuemann had told her players, “Let’s make history.”  They were prophetic words as the Euros went out and white-washed the Americans for the first time on home soil.  It was the first ever win for the European team away from home and the first time ever they have defended the cup. It was a week many Americans will soon want to forget but with a devastating loss like this there comes responsibility.  Captain… Continue Reading
