Swafford Closes Fast to Win CareerBuilder Challenge

hud

With half a dozen players bunched at the top of the leaderboard of the CareerBuilder Challenge it looked like extra holes would keep some players from watching the NFL Playoffs. But Hudson Swafford is a big fan of the Atlanta Falcons and he wasn’t ready to miss his team try to get to their second Super Bowl. Swafford called a blitz coming down the stretch and he birdied three of his last four holes to pull ahead and eek out… Continue Reading

Tournament of Champions Kicks Off Real ’16 Season

kapalua course

Many voices in the world of golf say the professional golf season starts at The Masters. The PGA Tour (contrary to the calendar) says it starts in October. But for most golfers and fans it starts with the first tournament of the season and that is this week’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Recently this tournament has taken a hit with many of the world’s top PGA Tour winners taking a pass on the lovely Plantation Course to extend their winter… Continue Reading

Welcome to 2015: The Hyundai Tournament of Champions

Geoff Ogilvy tees off on the 18th hole.

For many of us this is the first day back to work in 2015. After a nice long holiday break away from our everyday jobs it’s time to get in our old routine and head back to work. It’s much the same on the PGA Tour. After their end of the year break the PGA Tour kicks off the New Year in style in Hawaii at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Even though the all powerful PGA Tour can declare… Continue Reading

Just In Time: The FedEx Cup 2012 Playoffs Guidebook

by Jeff Skinner Last winter not far from where the PGA Tour has set up camp this week a beleaguered NFL coach was encouraging his team to “stay the course.”   Tom Coughlin wanted his charges to stay focused and just get to the playoffs.  He knew anything can happen once you’re in and his New York Giants went on a hot streak that ended with him hugging the Lombardi and Bill Belicheck shaking his head wondering how a 9-7 team… Continue Reading

Super Saturday May Benefit Waste Management Open

by Jeff Skinner For the second straight week the PGA Tour had another spellbinding finish.  Last week Kyle Stanley’s meltdown handed the win to unlikely winner Brandt Snedeker and this past Sunday we saw chain smoking Spencer Levin’s lead disappear in the desert wind.  Ironically the beneficiary of Levin’s implosion was last week’s heartbreak kid Stanley. The finish at the Waste Management Phoenix Open while very exciting probably went unnoticed by far too many fans.  The week at the TPC… Continue Reading

The PGA Tour in Paradise & Prime Time

by Jeff Skinner Oh, the poor life of a 2011 PGA Tour Champion.  With all their holiday celebrations now a thing of the past, this week they get to start their “Happy New Year” on the PGA Tour.  Twenty eight of last season’s winners have to drag themselves away from the comfort and relaxation of their homes and get back to work. Yes, those unfortunate golfers have to start their season in the sun and warmth of Hawaii, away from… Continue Reading

PGA Tour & NFL Playoffs: Weekend Paradise

by Jeff Skinner When the PGA Tour plans to open its season in Hawaii each year I bet they don’t give too much thought to a rain delay.  After all this is paradise, right?  It never rains in paradise.  Or at least it never rains this much.  Over five inches of rain in the past two days has washed out the first round of the Sony Open and left the tour scrambling and hoping for the weather to clear to… Continue Reading

FedEx Cup Playoffs vs Majors

by Jeff Skinner So we are talking playoffs today and not the NFL playoffs, the PGA Tour Playoffs and the Tour Championship.  The Tour finishes up its regular season this week when the 30 top point earners tee it up at Bobby Jones’ childhood home, East Lake Country Club. The playoff formula was reworked this season to give more players a chance to win The FedEx Cup and provide more volatility throughout the playoffs.   If any of the top five… Continue Reading
