It’s Time to Move to a Golf Course

17-mile-view

When it gets this cold and snowy up here in the north I, like millions of golfers that hate winter start to think about living the good life in a much warmer climate. Maybe a nice little place on a golf course with warm breezes and cold drinks. I think I may have found my spot. Check out this little shack with a nice water view which happens to be on a quaint little course. Got $50 million? Then make… Continue Reading

Crail Balcomie Links….a Stunningly Beautiful Course

crail beach

My bro and I played the fantastic Crail Balcomie Links on Monday and it exceeded all our expectations.  I can’t imagine a more visually stunning course that Balcomie.  It looked like Pebble Beach without the waves and we lucked out with the weather.  It was bright sun and temps in the high 60’s… we have brought the heat wave in the states over with us. Great course, friendly members, fine weather…life is good in Scotland.

Mentally Strong Johnson Wins U.S. Open

U.S. Open - Final Round

Dustin Johnson started the final round of the 116th U.S. Open four shots back of the leader Shane Lowry. He faced a challenge he had never yet accomplished: winning a major championship. Lowry had started the day on a hot streak as he finished up his third round with two birdies over his last four holes. If Lowry had his druthers he may have wanted to keep playing right there instead of taking the seven hour break to come back… Continue Reading

Best U.S. Open Venue? Two Perspectives

us open 18 flag

The boys at Golf Digest are heavily into the U.S. Open and as such have come up with a list they call “The Best U.S. Open Venues… Factoring in course layout, tradition, past winner and excitement produced, our panel provides a ‘definitive’ ranking.” They only include courses that held an Open for the past ten years so that disqualified a few favorites like Baltusrol and Oakland Hills but it’s still a heavy hitting list. Without blinking I knew Pebble Beach… Continue Reading

Trump’s Greens Fee Just Like Him…Too Much To Take

doral city

The leaderboard at the WGC- Cadillac Championship is indeed a stellar one. Popular players like leader Adam Scott, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson are only separated by a handful of strokes. It looks like another dramatic weekend is on deck and certainly worth watching. So I tuned in early for the Saturday Morning Drive to watch the Golf Channel crew give me some inside info. And I got more than I asked for. As Morning Drive… Continue Reading

Jordan Spieth & His Plans for Riviera

Another “oldie but goodie” hosts the PGA Tour this week as Riviera Country Club and Hogan’s Alley welcome the PGA boys to the Northern Trust Open. Riviera boasts an impressive legacy. The classic George Thomas design has been home to the U.S. Open, PGA Championships and a U.S. Senior Open. Ben Hogan won his first U.S. Open here and past winners of the L.A. Open/Northern Trust include Byron Nelson, Sam Snead, Tom Watson, Nick Faldo and Phil Mickelson. With as… Continue Reading

10 Things I Think

AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am - Final Round

1. Vaughn Taylor had one hell of a week. Playing with no tour card he got into the AT&T Pebble Beach on his past champions status. That’s past “Reno-Tahoe Open” champion, not Pebble Beach champion. He said all he was hoping for was a top ten so he could play next week. Even that was a fairly lofty goal. Who would have thought it would turn out like it did. 2. Taylor has had some tough times. He last won… Continue Reading

Vaughn Taylor Wins at Pebble Beach for a Life Changing Win

vaughn taylor trophy

This isn’t the story I was hoping to write this evening. I was all set for to be going on about how Phil Mickelson held his lead at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am for his 43rd PGA Tour win and a jump start for a charge towards another major at age 45. But this is why we play the game. And this is why we love this game. Was Phil the favorite to win as he went to sleep last… Continue Reading

Mickelson Poised to Crash Pebble Beach Party

phil pebble 16 driver

All the talk heading into the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am was about Jordan Spieth and Jason Day being back on the course together. Jordan and Jason were the headliners and with six of the top ten golfers in the world teeing it up on Pebble it was going to be a battle of the “new generation.” Bubba Watson, Justin Rose, Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed are the top ten golfers that were supposed to be the big draw along with… Continue Reading
