Swafford Closes Fast to Win CareerBuilder Challenge

hud

With half a dozen players bunched at the top of the leaderboard of the CareerBuilder Challenge it looked like extra holes would keep some players from watching the NFL Playoffs. But Hudson Swafford is a big fan of the Atlanta Falcons and he wasn’t ready to miss his team try to get to their second Super Bowl. Swafford called a blitz coming down the stretch and he birdied three of his last four holes to pull ahead and eek out… Continue Reading

Phil Mickelson: Tournament Ambassador

phil career builder

The PGA Tour heads to the desert for the CareerBuilder Challenge and what formerly was called The Bob Hope Classic. Hope was the driving force behind his tournament for over fifty years. Hope was instrumental in building the tournament into a ‘must-play’ on tour as he brought his fellow celebrities, from the Rat Pack to sitting U.S. Presidents to play the game he so loved. He raised millions for charities and after his passing the torch was passed to former… Continue Reading

Chip Shots from My Couch

trump-nick

It’s official: I’ve played my last round of 2016.  Freezing temps have closed all the courses in the Hudson Valley and as I am writing this snow is falling outside.  But that didn’t stop me from walking a few holes today. Instead of a boring walk through the neighborhood I headed up to James Baird State Park, an old Robert Trent Jones design and choose to walk a few holes (without clubs) to get myself off the couch and maybe… Continue Reading

Matsuyama Takes Hero World Challenge

hidekitrophy1268

The boys at NBC and The Golf Channel were hoping for a charge from Tiger Woods today at the Hero World Challenge but it was not to be. Woods was too far back to make it interesting and he had the poorest round of his comeback week. Hideki Matsuyama was the man instead as he continued his superb recent play and topped this elite field of golfers. Matsuyama finished his week with a one over 73 but that was enough… Continue Reading

Dustin Johnson Takes BMW Championship

dj-bmw

Dustin Johnson continued his stellar play yesterday at the BMW Championship and turned his three shot lead into his margin of victory for his third win of the season. He also may have positioned himself as the front runner for Player of the Year with a major (U.S. Open ) a WGC (Bridgestone) and now a FedEx Cup Playoff event. The tag line for BMW, the cars, is “The Ultimate Driving Machine.” And that may as well be Johnson’s nickname… Continue Reading

Jordan Spieth’s Stupid Human Trick

spieth fall 2

Jordan Spieth isn’t letting his substandard play get him down, at least off the tour anyway.  Spieth has some fun while giving a junior clinic before the AT&T Bryon Nelson Classic. Watch Spieth as he pops a marshmallow into the air as he hits his ball and then proceeds to catch it in his mouth.  What a talent he is! Luckily he didn’t hurt himself as he stumbled to the ground laughing.  Yes, he’s still a kid. .@JordanSpieth the magician… Continue Reading

What Happens If I Don’t Wake Up?

max

Each week we watch the PGA Tour and cheer on our favorite golfers.  With their spectacular golf games and amazing lifestyle we tend to forget that they too are humans. They are fathers and sons and husbands and have to deal with plenty of the same problems that we everyday “regular folk” do too. Here is a must read, I repeat, must read article from PGA Tour.com’s Helen Ross on tour regular Freddie Jacobson and his young son Max. Max… Continue Reading

Jason Dufner Hangs On

In 2013 I was at the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club. My son was living nearby at the time and we grabbed some tickets to watch the best golfers in the world try for “Glory’s last Shot.” Friday morning the course was getting soaked by an unrelenting rain that tested both golfers and fans. We toughed it out through the mud and the rain and by the afternoon the sun was bright and the skies were blue. While… Continue Reading
