Swafford Closes Fast to Win CareerBuilder Challenge

hud

With half a dozen players bunched at the top of the leaderboard of the CareerBuilder Challenge it looked like extra holes would keep some players from watching the NFL Playoffs. But Hudson Swafford is a big fan of the Atlanta Falcons and he wasn’t ready to miss his team try to get to their second Super Bowl. Swafford called a blitz coming down the stretch and he birdied three of his last four holes to pull ahead and eek out… Continue Reading

My Scotland Adventure

DSC00528

I am finally coming back down to earth after my two week trip to Scotland. And I don’t like it. My brother and I had two unbelievable weeks in the home of golf and being back in the real world isn’t cutting it. Frankly…it sucks. But I have figured out Flickr and have started to upload some pics and videos there so I can share our trip with my readers. Click here for my Flickr Pics. We spent a week… Continue Reading

Golf in the Olympics: I’m Done…for Now

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy speaks t

Let it be known that this will be my last piece with any mention of the Olympics, golf in the Olympics, players in the Olympics, players not in the Olympics, the Olympic Flame, the Olympic Rings, Olympic Paint…anything Olympic…at least until we crown the Champion Golfer of the Year. All this Olympic baloney is taking the focus away from the oldest and maybe the greatest major of them all. That being said I need to vent for a bit before… Continue Reading

Boys Will Be Boys, Spring Break 2016

jordan jump

They say youth is wasted on the young. Well that doesn’t apply to Jordan Spieth and his crew of pals which include Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler and Smylie Kaufman. They have spent the last week Tweeting, Snapchatting and Instagraming their fun and frolicking during their “Spring Break” in the Bahamas. We have seen them goofing on each other while playing golf in their bathing suits, popping a few cold ones and generally just having a damn good time. Hey, this… Continue Reading

Winter Golf and My “Watson” Moment

watson chip in

And the season begins! An unseasonably warm spell in the Hudson Valley this week had all us golf starved hackers chomping at the bit for a few holes of real golf. With zero snow on the ground and temperatures nearing 60 all that was needed was a course to play. And thank god there was a little nine holer just minutes from my house that stays open all winter. As long as there is no snow they’re open and this… Continue Reading

Good Stuff from The PLAYERS Championship

duval players

The PGA Tour likes to play up the fact that it gives tens of millions of dollars to charity each year. Tim Finchem and his cronies would like us all to think that the tour isn’t just a business, technically a non-profit business that consists of a bunch of one percenters flying around the country playing golf for a living and counting their millions. The truth is the PGA Tour does enable millions of dollars to go to good, effective… Continue Reading

Golf Is the Game of a Lifetime, Here’s Proof

97 2

They say golf is the game of a lifetime and while many of us come to the game late those that stick with it do so exactly for that reason. For one of the many attributes of playing golf is that we can play it until we end up on the other side of the divots. John Feinstein gives us a profile of Sid Beckwith who has been playing golf for over 80 years and playing it well.   “We… Continue Reading

Strategy vs. Length…A Losing Proposition

hanse trum

There was a bit of griping at the WGC-Cadillac Championship over the weekend. The Blue Monster is now two seasons removed from an entire overhaul by noted golf architect Gil Hanse and some players were calling it unfair. When Donald Trump purchased The Doral resort he opened up his wallet and set Hanse loose on a total makeover. Now, with the course fully grown in and the PGA Tour paying its second visit to The Donald’s baby we got to… Continue Reading

Tiger Has Lost His Feel

tiger lost

The golf world is still in collective shock at what we witnessed today. Tiger Woods, the greatest player of the day, slapped the ball around TPC Scottsdale to card a career high 82. It was difficult to watch Tiger who has lost any semblance of a tour level golf game. He had trouble with all aspects of his game from tee to green, on the green, the bunkers, the desert, the cactus…and everywhere else he visited gave him fits. What… Continue Reading
