James Hahn Takes the Wells Fargo Championship

james hahn

It was an exciting finish at the Wells Fargo Championship with James Hahn earning the win over Roberto Castro on the first playoff hole. Hahn had it to ten under par but an untimely bogey on the difficult 18th hole dropped him back into a tie with Castro. But his luck changed when Castro pulled his playoff tee ball into the creek that guards the left side of the fairway. He did manage an impressive up and down from behind… Continue Reading

In 2013 I was at the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club. My son was living nearby at the time and we grabbed some tickets to watch the best golfers in the world try for “Glory’s last Shot.” Friday morning the course was getting soaked by an unrelenting rain that tested both golfers and fans. We toughed it out through the mud and the rain and by the afternoon the sun was bright and the skies were blue. While… Continue Reading

Fabian Gomez Wins the Sony Open

fabian

I can’t imagine anyone making a trip to Hawaii and going home disappointed. Fabian Gomez certainly is leaving paradise happy as he took home the hardware at the Sony Open. Gomez finished at twenty under par and had to play two more playoff holes to take the victory from tour veteran Brandt Snedeker. It is his second PGA Tour win to go with his 2015 Fedex St. Jude Classic victory.

Ten Things I Think

lowry smiling

Newly crowned PGA Tour winner Shane Lowry made some absolutely outrageous recoveries on Sunday at Firestone. His save at the tenth hole and his clinching birdie at eighteen would have to make anyone’s highlight reel. Talk about the ultimate hangover. Troy Merritt broke through for his first win last week at The Quicken Loans and this week at the WGC he comes in dead last. An opening 82 doomed his chances but I don’t think he’s losing any sleep over… Continue Reading

Bubba Watson Wins in Playoff

watson trophy

Bubba Watson birdied the second playoff hole at The Travelers Championship to defeat Paul Casey and win for the second time this season. This is Watson’s second Travelers Championship and eighth PGA Tour win. “I proved to myself in ’10 that I could win under pressure in the playoff; I proved to myself that I could mess up 17 and still have a chance to win, and so I knew that if I just kept my head down and kept… Continue Reading

Thrills & Chills at The Valspar Championship

spieth arms

There were so many amazing shots at The Valspar Championship it looked like one continuous highlight reel. Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, Sean O’Hair and Ryan Moore put on some display of skill…with a little luck thrown in. Moore holed out for eagle on the sixth hole. Reed sunk a clutch, 24 footer for birdie on eighteen. O’Hair canned a long putt for birdie on sixteen. Spieth drained a monster on fourteen for birdie. Spieth got up and down on eighteen… Continue Reading

10 Things I Think

james hahn driver

1.  Riviera played like a major championship all week and the rains halfway through the final round seemed to make the course tougher. No one could get the ball to the hole on eighteen. 2.  Retief Goosen started the final round with a two shot lead and things looked great with an opening birdie. But a bogey on seven and a double on eight ended his chances for the win. Still, at 46 with a new lease on a golfing… Continue Reading

Lahiri, Kim, Goydos & Day, Winners All

day farmers board

It was a long Sunday of golf watching for us fans of the great, but most aggravating of games. The action started early on The Golf Channel with coverage of the European Tour’s Maybank Malaysian Open. The stage was set for Bernd Wiesberger to claim his third Euro Tour win but he stumbled to a two over 74. That opened the door and a young, rookie fresh out of qualifying school. India’s Anirban lahiri stepped up and cared a solid… Continue Reading

Round the World Round Up

baek

The weather in the Northeast took a decidedly chilly turn today and any golfers on the courses here may have been breaking out the “winter golf” gear. But there still was plenty of golf played around the world this weekend and some exciting finishes at that. There was double barrel action on the European Tour this week as tournaments took place on two continents. At the limited field Volvo World Match Play Championship Mikko IIonen out dueled Henrik Stenson for… Continue Reading
