Chip Shots: Drugs, Spies, Majors & More

007

There is some wild stuff going on in golf right now including some suspensions, some spying and a whale of a fish story. Scott Stallings was suspended from the PGA Tour for violating the Tour’s Drug Policy. But he didn’t go all A-Rod or Barry Bonds on steroids. Stallings had taken an over the counter drug, not a steroid, prescribed by his doctor. After a players meeting explaining the policy he went to the tour and turned himself in. He… Continue Reading

Lahiri, Kim, Goydos & Day, Winners All

day farmers board

It was a long Sunday of golf watching for us fans of the great, but most aggravating of games. The action started early on The Golf Channel with coverage of the European Tour’s Maybank Malaysian Open. The stage was set for Bernd Wiesberger to claim his third Euro Tour win but he stumbled to a two over 74. That opened the door and a young, rookie fresh out of qualifying school. India’s Anirban lahiri stepped up and cared a solid… Continue Reading

Scott Stallings Gets It Done at The Farmers

by Jeff Skinner I am just now getting back into the habit of watching Sunday afternoon golf.  Excuse me while I try and kick that NFL addiction it’s a tough one to go cold turkey on. The Seahawks and Broncos would do well to take a lesson from Scott Stallings as he won for the third time on the PGA Tour at The Farmers Insurance Open.  In the big moment, when he needed to make a big play he did. … Continue Reading

Phil’s Taxes…Wrong Place, Wrong Time

by Jeff Skinner It’s amazing how the Big Dawgs can always steal the spot light.  This weekend there were three great finishes in tournaments with two going to playoffs. On the European Tour, eventual winner Jamie Donaldson snuck into the lead and had to watch as potential tying putts by Justin Rose and Thorbjorn lipped out on eighteen. Scott Stallings blew a chance at The Humana Challenge with a water ball on eighteen and missed the playoff by a stroke.  Three… Continue Reading

Winds Wipe Out Tournament of Champions

by Jeff Skinner So much for the wonderful weather that usually greets the PGA Tour as they open their season at Kapalua.  The wind and rain were so bad that the PGA Tour bit the bullet and cancelled the first round of the Tournament of Champions. With the wind gusting to 50 mph balls were rolling off the greens and the officials determined that the conditions were unplayable.  Most disappointed player of the day has to be Webb Simpson who… Continue Reading

Tiger Woods: Shark or Shark Bait?

by Jeff Skinner It was a fast and furious week in golf as we saw some amazing golf and some great finishes throughout the golf world.  Simon Dyson, Yani Tseng, Olin Browne and Scott Stallings supplied plenty of thrills last weekend and it doesn’t stop there. Men’s golf heats up this week when Firestone Country Club hosts the top golfers at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational.  All the top players will be teeing it up and so will Tiger Woods.… Continue Reading

Scott Stallings Birdies to Victory at The Greenbrier

by Jeff Skinner Many traditionalists have issues with a golf course that ends on a par three.  The Greenbrier is one of two courses on the PGA Tour that finish with a par three.  East Lake Country Club is the other.  But if you’re looking for excitement, sometimes a par three is just what you need. Ask Scott Stallings if he thinks finishing on a short par three is acceptable.  You won’t get any argument.  Stallings, a rookie on Tour… Continue Reading
