Open Championship Preview: Holes 16, 17, 18

open 145th

The last three holes at Royal Troon starts with a birdie opportunity at the par 5, 554 yard sixteenth hole.  In 2004 it played as the easiest hole on the course. A burn crosses the fairway and will challenge golfers to clear it with any wind at all.  The large green is surrounded by those deep, painful bunkers. The par 3 seventeenth normally faces into the wind and at 220 yards players may need a driver to have any chance… Continue Reading

Open Championship Preview: Holes 7, 8, 9

open 145th

Our Open Championship Preview continues. The 401 yard par 4 seventh heads inland off the coast and tests the players with a zig-zag fairway. The eighth is the shortest hole at Royal Troon and in the Open Rota. The famous Postage Stamp, a 123 yard par 3 sounds like an easy hole but it is far from that.  Hit the green or you’re in jail and the wind can make it play much longer. The ninth hole is another challenging… Continue Reading

Bubba Watson Wins 2nd Northern Trust Open

bubba nto

Bubba Watson says he’s “not big on change” and we have heard Bubba whine a bit over the years about courses and course changes he didn’t like.  He usually talks himself out of competing on those courses but good old Riviera Country Club hasn’t changed much over the years.  And that suits Bubba just fine. There were plenty of doubters with Bubba taking a one shot lead into the final round.  Bubba hadn’t fared too well with 54 hole leads… Continue Reading

Spieth, Paramor and Slow Play

spieth paramor

Jordan Spieth is used to making headlines. In 2015 his Grand Slam Chase had him front and center on every media outlet. This year is no different. He lapped the field with his win at the Tournament of Champions and is the feature attraction at the European Tour’s Abu Dhabi Championship. Spieth, Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler were the main event in round one and once again Spieth dominated the headlines. But it wasn’t for his round of 4 under… Continue Reading

Tiger’s Revealing Interview

tiger inter

Tiger Woods continues to be in the spotlight lately and it has nothing to do with his golf game. First Woods gets appointed a Ryder Cup Assistant Captain and now he opens up to the media. That’s a sentence rarely seen in print, Tiger opens up to the media. Like really? Yes, he really did. At least it appears that way. In a long ranging one on one interview with noted golf writer Lorne Rubenstein in Time magazine Tiger talks… Continue Reading

Gary Player celebrates his 80th birthday today and the nine time major champion shows no signs of slowing down, ever. Tiger Woods & Lucas Glover: “Yippee-ki-yay”

glover woods

Watching the Farmer’s Insurance Open this weekend we got to see some faces that haven’t been near the top of the leaderboard for awhile. Charles Howell III, Nick Watney, J.J. Henry and he of the great nickname, Johnny Vegas all got some television time as they tried to win at Torrey Pines. Another player that got some TV time, and he wish he hadn’t was Lucas Glover. Glover struggled mightily with his putter and yipped his way to a 77… Continue Reading

WTF ? Lance Armstrong Speaks of Honor

lance-armstrong

As I have said before I am still a fan of print media. Grabbing a magazine and heading off to the “library” seems more natural than sliding through apps on my cell phone. But recently I’ve been disappointed by one of my “Go To” Mags…Golf Digest. Their December issue had that self-promoting, entitled, douche bag Johnny Manziel on the cover. Really? King Douche on the cover? Bad…really bad choice if you ask me.  Now the January issue has Rickie Fowler… Continue Reading

Fallout From Far and Wide on Phil’s Callout of Watson

Phil-Mickelson-Ryder-Cup

The day after the 2014 Ryder Cup couldn’t be more different for the two teams. The European Team is most likely nursing the remnants of some heavy duty celebration. The Euros played exquisitely and deserve any and all tributes thrown their way. The Americans on the other hand have to asking themselves a painfully familiar question: Why do we keep losing at the Ryder Cup? Team USA has lost in eight of the last ten matches and from the look… Continue Reading
