Big Questions for 2017

woods-gd

The 2017 golf season is here and as we golf fanatics look towards the future there are plenty of questions for the upcoming season. Jaime Diaz of Golf World poses a few of those in his piece,”Golf’s 10 Biggest Questions for 2017.” He starts off with who will be the best player and names a few of the top players as candidates but my money is on Rory McIlroy. I think Rors is fed up with all the attention placed… Continue Reading

Tiger Woods Talks to Charlie Rose

tiger-tie

Tiger Woods, or should I say the new Tiger Woods is talking.  Woods who just announced the formation of his new Tiger Woods Ventures with his “TGR” logo looks to be out promoting his brand. He spent some time with Charlie Rose and he’ll appear on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight. Woods tells Rose that he doesn’t think he’ll finish with 18 majors.  In true Woodsian fashion he says he’ll finish with more. Tiger’s umpteenth comeback was stunted… Continue Reading

An Historic Ryder Cup for Phil Mickelson

2016 Ryder Cup - Singles Matches

Davis Love III has to be feeling great about his Ryder Cup Team’s victory over Team Europe. He was the hand picked leader of the Ryder Cup Task Force who wanted Love to have a second chance at a win to make amends for his 2012 team that threw away a four point lead going into the final day. Instrumental in his being named captain was Phil Mickelson who was also instrumental in the creation of the Task Force with… Continue Reading

At This Ryder Cup….Let the Players Play

ryder-16

The Ryder Cup was started by Samuel Ryder, a wealthy seed merchant with hopes of an exhibition that promoted the game of golf and the sportsmanship and camaraderie that goes along with it. I don’t think he would recognize it today. Since 1979 when all of Europe was added to the original Great Britain & Ireland Team the matches became competitive but the buildup and pressure surrounding the Ryder Cup has gone over the top. With the passing of Arnold… Continue Reading

Westwood Starts Ryder Cup Smack Talk

westy-ryder-cup-fist

The Ryder Cup Smack Talk has started already. European Tour stalwart Lee Westwood who will be making his tenth consecutive team has taken a page from the Seve Book of gamesmanship. Westwood is quoted as saying that Tiger Woods may be a distraction for the American Team. “I don’t know what impact there will be from having Tiger around. They have always struggled to find a partner for Tiger that’s been successful. He could have an adverse effect in the… Continue Reading

The FedEx Cup Playoffs Work

FECupPlayoffs_Prf_6c_Pos [Converted]

When the PGA Tour decided to revamp its schedule to try and institute their playoff system back in 2007 I wasn’t sold on their reasoning. The Tour had flourished over the last decades (thanks Tiger) and we had months and months of opportunities to watch the greatest golfers in the world. And while this “playoffs” mentality worked for the NFL I was doubting that it would work for golf. We had the best players in the world playing in all… Continue Reading

PGA Championship Picks…Glory’s Last Shot

pga balt

The PGA Championship starts today as we close out the major season a bit early. Those Olympics are screwing up everything…but that’s another rant. It wouldn’t be a major without the Links Life Golf Crew Picks so here we go. Fresh off his big win at the Open Championship is G. Rennie: So far this is the season of first time major winners and I think the trend is likely to continue. So my first three picks are from the… Continue Reading

The Ice Bucket Challenge Pays Off

gates

Remember a few summers ago when the “Ice Bucket Challenge” was the latest fad? You couldn’t miss the hundreds of celebrities, especially golfers that were getting dumped with plenty of ice cold water. It was a fundraiser for the A.L.S. Association to further research into amyotrophic lateral sclerosis also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. You either donate to A.L.S. or get dumped on with a bucket of ice. But most dumpees donated also. It looked like a fad that had… Continue Reading

Jordan Spieth has had Enough of the Negative Media

open 145th

As Jordan Spieth continues to struggle to find his 2015 form he says he’s grown tired of the negative questions from the media.  Spieth looked frustrated on Royal Troon today as his tee game, ball striking and especially putting showed little resemble to the form that he displayed last season. Let’s face it: 2015 with two major wins, five overall, a Tour Championship and a FedEx Cup check is a tough act to follow. But Spieth, like Tiger Woods is… Continue Reading

day players trophy

Jason Day continued his dominating streak of golf today with his wire to wire win at The PLAYERS Championship. Since his win at the RBC Canadian Open last July Day has won in seven of his last seventeen starts. That’s a 41% victory rate, a number rarely seen in golf. It’s also his tenth PGA Tour win and that earns him membership in a special club. Since 1980 only four other players have won ten times before their 29th birthday:… Continue Reading
