Oh Yea…Knox Wins Travelers, But Furyk Makes History

furyk bald

It was quite a day for Russell Knox at the Travelers Championship just outside of Hartford, CT. Knox continued his hot play and backed up his Saturday 64 with a final round 68 to edge out University of Hartford grad, Jerry Kelly by a stroke in his old stomping grounds. Knox said he felt like a superhero after he dropped his inning putt on the 72nd hole. “I felt like the Incredible Hulk when it went in,” Knox said. “I… Continue Reading

Jim Furyk Shoots PGA Tour’s First Ever 58

furky travellers 58

As the leaders at the Travelers Championship were finishing thier breakfast Jim Furyk went out and made history.  Furyk broke the 59 barrier with a sensational 58 on the par 70 TPC River Highlands Course. Furyk’s 58 is the first ever shot during a PGA Tour event. This summer we watched golfers at The Open Championship and PGA threaten the major championship record 63 to no avail. But Furyk, playing well off the lead at the notoriously low scoring Travelers… Continue Reading

Bubba Watson Looking for “Hometown” Win

bubba putting

Bubba Watson is looking to go back to back this week at the Greenbrier Classic. Fresh off his eighth PGA Tour win at The Travelers Watson is feeling quite at home at the Old White Course since making the Greenbrier his summer home a few seasons ago.  Back to back isn’t easy on the PGA Tour but on courses set up to yield some birdies Bubba certainly has a fighting chance. Bubba is known for his long game but the… Continue Reading

Tiger Woods & Lucas Glover: “Yippee-ki-yay”

glover woods

Watching the Farmer’s Insurance Open this weekend we got to see some faces that haven’t been near the top of the leaderboard for awhile. Charles Howell III, Nick Watney, J.J. Henry and he of the great nickname, Johnny Vegas all got some television time as they tried to win at Torrey Pines. Another player that got some TV time, and he wish he hadn’t was Lucas Glover. Glover struggled mightily with his putter and yipped his way to a 77… Continue Reading

Lucky Bubba Just Being Bubba…Again

bubba 14 hsbc

It was fun this weekend to watch the boys of the PGA and European Tours mix it up in China. The WGC-HSBC Champions boasted a solid field as it is co-sponsored by both tours and with plenty of big names perched atop the leaderboard it made for some thrilling early Sunday morning viewing. Good old boy Bubba Watson was up to his old tricks as he powered, curved and coaxed his ball around the course to the “oohs and ahs”… Continue Reading

by Jeff Skinner Kevin Streelman shot a 64 and finished with a bang as he birdied his last seven holes to win the Travelers Championship.  Streelman set a new record for consecutive birdies on the PGA Tour with his streak.  What a way to finish.  Here’s the AP Story.

A Focused Bubba Watson Means More Wins

by Jeff Skinner One of the keys to winning on the PGA Tour is going low on the weekend.  Thursday and Friday are all about grooving the swing and making the cut.  But if you expect to cash the winner’s check you need to go low on the weekends.  Bubba Watson did just that this weekend at the Northern Trust Open.  Watson shot 64-64 and his closing birdie on eighteen gave him a two stroke victory.  This is his first… Continue Reading

My “Summer of Golf” Comes to an End

by Jeff Skinner With the start of autumn this Sunday I can’t help but reflect on this past summer and all the golf I was privileged to see.  Summer of ’13 was a grand season for me as I spent days on the road traveling the northeast following the world’s best golfers. This past August I had the good fortune to see plenty of golf as I ping-ponged from tournament to tournament catching both professionals and amateurs alike. I started… Continue Reading

4 Tournaments, 2 Majors, 1 Great Month of Golf

by Jeff Skinner The U.S. Women’s Open was the fourth golf tournament I attended this past month.  With Inbee Park’s historic win at Sebonack Golf Club my “June of Golf” adventure has come to an end. This past week I traveled down to Southampton on Tuesday for the player’s press conferences and practice rounds and on Saturday I watched most of the third round on a great day for golf. I clocked 624 miles for two round trips, snuck in… Continue Reading

Bubba Watson Calls Out His Caddie

by Jeff Skinner I was trying to avoid this whole “Bubba reams caddie” thing but everyone else has chimed so I may has well.  After all, Bubba creates excitement wherever he goes and in this case that’s not a good thing. So Bubba is leading the Travelers and he plops one in the water at the par three sixteenth.  He then reams out his caddie for the wrong club, wrong distance, wrong hat and anything else he could whine about. … Continue Reading
