Two Weeks at Pinehurst: Just Perfect

by Jeff Skinner Just about now maintenance crews are pulling down the grandstands and cleaning up the old, venerable Pinehurst No.2 course after a whirlwind two weeks of U.S. Open play. The reviews are in from all around and this grand experiment can’t be called anything else but a rousing success. The players, both men and women, raved about the course and the setup. Pinehurst is so vast that all the needed USGA facilities had plenty of room. The fans… Continue Reading

The Fun is Back at The Travelers, but Merion is Still on Our Minds

by Jeff Skinner The PGA Tour moves up the Eastern seaboard and  into Cromwell, Connecticut this week and after the punishing Merion layout they are thrilled to be back in the land of red numbers. U.S. Open winner Justin Rose who has to be running on fumes after his whirlwind of media appearances, tops a good field of golfers on a course that will yield more birdies in a day than we saw all week at Merion.  Mark Leishman won… Continue Reading

No Tin Cup Here…Tommy Two Gloves Wins

by Jeff Skinner It reads like a Hollywood script: an unknown golfer with a homemade swing and a catchy nickname comes from nowhere to do battle with the best golfers in the world.  Only this time it wasn’t a movie and the leading man didn’t miss his chance at a life changing victory. Unlike Roy McAvoy in Tin Cup, Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey shot the round of his life on Sunday to win his first PGA Tour event at the… Continue Reading

I… Continue Reading

10 Things I Thing…& More

by Jeff Skinner This weekend didn’t capture the imagination of America as no popular Americans, men or women contended but there was plenty of “great stuff” as my brother likes to say. 1.  Every professional golfer that wins has a drastic life change in store.  But how about every player that just plays in a tournament?  That’s the case for the 81 First Tee participants that were lucky enough to tee it up alongside Champions Tour players at the Nature… Continue Reading

Simpson Putts To Victory at The Deutsche Bank Championship

by Jeff Skinner Webb Simpson continued his hot streak as he birdied three straight holes down the stretch and won the second stage of The PGA Tour FedEx Cup Playoffs.  Going into the final hole of The Deutsche Bank Championship Simpson was two shots off the lead but he rolled in a 30 foot birdie putt that left him one shot back of leader Chez Reavie. All Reavie needed was a par on eighteen to secure the victory and make… Continue Reading

Inspirational Win for Frazar

by Jeff Skinner In a PGA Tour season that continues to amaze us each week the FedEx St. Jude Classic was no different.  Another Sunday means another playoff for the PGA Tour and another story than defies logic.  A lifelong journeyman, Harrison Frazier found the right formula to outlast Robert Karlsson in a playoff for his first career win in his 355th attempt. It is especially sweet for Frazar because he was on the verge of quitting the game as… Continue Reading
