The Players at the Players

The leader board at the Players Championship looks like a mixture of European Tour, Nationwide Tour and a few PGA pros as well. It’s not what the masses or the media likes to see on the weekend, no Tiger or Phil in the top twenty, but the Stadium Course has a way of giving us a good weekend one way or another. Alex Cejka shot a 65 to take a two stroke lead and Ian Poulter shoots 4 under to take second alone. Four players are tied for third including Masters winner Angel Cabrera. If it is possible for a recent two time major winner to fly under the rainbow, Cabrera is your man. All he does is hang around the lead and gets in the mix on Sunday. He could be the new force in big tournament golf. Tiger got it going on the back nine where he shot 33 and finished with a 69, seven strokes back. He was making par from all over the course and his putter was working for him. Phil struggled all day and made the cut on the number. Phil’s putter needs a rest as he used 34 putts in his round of 71 and is eleven strokes back.

At the LPGA’s Michelob Ultra Open, Lorena Ochoa shot a 65 to take a three stroke lead over a pair of Kim’s, In-Kyung and Song-Hee. Cristie Kerr and Natalie Gulbis are the only Americans in the top ten.

At the BMW Italian Open, John Daly shot his second 69 and is T16. Those Loudmouth clothes that he is endorsing look crazy, but they’re working. Keep it up Big John!
