Could This Be Stacy’s Week?

by Jeff Skinner

If you are not paying attention to the Kraft Nabisco Championship you should.  The ladies of the LPGA are playing the first major of the season on a tough course with a championship setup and fast, firm greens.  The temperature has been around 100 and the greens could be ever tougher if the winds start to blow as they predict they will.

Stacy Lewis leads by three strokes after shooting 69 and 66.  Lewis has been close before but hasn’t been able to keep it together for all four rounds yet.  She has put together a new support team this season and she is seeing big dividends already.  Beth Ann Baldry has an emotional piece on Lewis in Golfweek. Lewis lost her grandfather right before the start of the Kraft and is playing with a little bit more on her mind.  Maybe Lewis will get that little something extra this week and hold on for her first win.

Stacy Lewis is a special person.  Her story is an inspirational one. With her scoliosis at age eleven and her surgeries it’s a miracle she is playing professional golf.  But she’s not just a golfer.  She’s spends much of her time giving back to children with scoliosis. She spent December on a mission trip to Rwanda and never misses an LPGA charitable event.  She’s found her calling both on the tour and off.  Maybe this will be her week to win, to win one for herself and her grandfather.
