The Spirit of Links Golf lives and its vessel is once again, Tom Watson. Tom has been The Master of the Links for decades and his five Open Championships are evidence that his links skills are unparalleled in the modern game. He worked his magic on the spiritual links of Turnberry in 2009 as he attempted to win his sixth Open. Alas, he fell short but carried us on a mystical journey that we rode for months.
Watson is back at it today at Royal St. Georges as he aced the 6th hole to electrify the crowd and jump back into the mix at his most beloved championship. Links golf is his fountain of youth and he drags us and the field along with him on a magical, supernatural ride each time he plays in this championship. Watching him play links golf never gets old and as long as he plays we still have that link to his days of glory. And that makes this week so special for many of us.
