There is Crying in Golf

by Jeff Skinner

We’ve seen Bubba Watson everywhere this week as he made all the rounds as the new Masters Champion.  Bubba hasn’t been able to hold back the tears each time his dad, wife or new child is mentioned.   And that’s great, Bubba is an emotional individual and there’s nothing wrong with showing it.

We’ve seen plenty of golfers cry after their wins.  It’s a realization of dreams coming true and at the same time they’re remembering all the people that meant so much to them along the way.

Steve Stricker’s my favorite “crying winner.”  Alex Myers has a slideshow on Golf Digest that celebrates some of the emotional moments in the game.

Stricker may be my favorite crier but the most emotional moment in golf happened at the 2006 Ryder cup when Darren Clarke clinched the cup for Europe only weeks after losing his wife to cancer… hands down the most emotional moment I’ve seen in golf.
