The Spirit of Seve at The Ryder Cup

by Jeff Skinner

This is the first Ryder Cup since the passing of European Team stalwart Seve Ballesteros.  But captain Jose Maria Olazabal is making sure the spirit of his good friend, partner and mentor surrounds the team at Medinah.

The European Team’s golf bags feature Seve’s famous silhouette from his historic victory celebration at the 1984 Open Championship.  That was classic Seve as he pounded his fist after his winning putt fell.  And rumor has it that Olazabal has outfitted his team in Seve’s trademark outfit he wore on Sundays at major championships.  His combination of navy slacks and navy sweater over a white shirt will be worn by the European team during Sunday’s singles matches.  Olazabal is hoping that the spirit of Seve will guide his team to victory and allow them to make their own historic silhouette.
