Brendon Todd Takes Byron Nelson Championship

by Jeff Skinner

Mike Weir’s dream come true comeback was put on hold today by Brendon Todd who out lasted Weir to win the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Weir has been valiantly trying to regain his Masters winning form that has been taken from him due to multiple injuries. But he’ll have to wait at least another week before he can try and win for the first time since 2007.

Instead, the dream come true belonged to the 28 year old Todd who collected his first PGA Tour win in his 77th start.

Todd won the old fashioned way: hitting fairways and sinking putts. For the week Todd led the field in fairways hit, total putts and strokes gained putting. Play like that will usually end winning plenty of trophies.

It’s a banner year for the University of Georgia as Todd becomes the fifth PGA Tour winner from Georgia. Todd joins Bubba Watson (2 wins), Russell Henley, Chris Kirk and Harris English as Georgia alumni with victories this season. Go Dawgs.
