Tiger Woods in Phoenix? Not a Surprise

We all know that dozens of sportswriters make Tiger Woods their number one story any chance they can. Woods garners attention beyond the sports world so it is no surprise that his every move is chronicled so religiously.

Even his potential moves make headlines as noted by Golf.com earlier this week.

According to Eamon Lynch and Coleman McDowell Tiger will return to competition at the 2015 Waste Management Open in Phoenix.  tiger phoenix

They cite “sources” claiming that Woods has reserved his courtesy car for the week and another source claims that the Four Seasons Resort has rooms saved for Woods.

Of course no tournament officials or hotel staff would confirm either claim but it does peak my interest.

First of all Tiger coming back is good news for everyone, the tour, the fans, the media and Tiger himself.

Secondly, I was actually wondering how they would come by such information.

Now, a tip from the WMO officials wouldn’t be so unusual. You have full time staff and volunteers running the biggest party in the desert and maybe one of them lets it slip.

Or maybe Lynch and McDowell spent last year having a few beers with one of them. Maybe they were repaid for their graciousness by an inside tip. Certainly not out of the question.

As far as the hotel reservations maybe they hacked their reservations system or maybe it’s a bit more simple than that.

Maybe someone they know has a nephew who has a friend who has a girlfriend whose mother works at the Four Seasons. Ah, it reminds me of Haldeman and Ehrlichman during  Watergate.

There is speculation by many that Woods wants to get a jump on his season and put that new swing, new coach and healthy body back to work. And that’s very possible.

Granted, this is an early start by Woods who normally starts his season at Torrey Pines but from my cheap seat it’s easy to see why Tiger would play in Phoenix for the first time since 2001. It’s the Super Bowl of course!

The Waste Management Open finishes a few hours before kickoff of Super Bowl 49 and it is being played just a par five away from TPC Scottsdale.

So this is how I figure it went when Tiger and his agent Mark Steinberg sat down to plan Tiger’s 2015 season.

Steiny: “OK Tiger why don’t we get a jump on the season and you play at the Waste Management Open.”

Tiger: “You mean where I canned that ace in 1997? And I had all those assholes move that boulder for me when I was stymied in the desert? And where that douche bag threw a freakin orange at me on the green in 2001? And where I never won?”  tiger-boulder-2

Steiny: “Yea dude…you’re going to be in town anyway.”

Tiger: “Why the hell would I be in Phoenix?”

Steiny: “The Super Bowl dude! We all heading to the Super Bowl to hang in one of those comped luxury boxes?”

Woods: “Really? Cool bro…book it. But don’t tell anybody.”

It is simple…the Super Bowls draws all kinds of fans. Even those that want to get in a quick round before kickoff.

  1. Spy’s and subterfuge, you really figured it out. I thought Tigey posted it on his website. I like this version a lot more. Does Steiny really call his bias dude?

  2. Yes…it was on his website but only a few days after the investigative reporters at Golf.com outed him.
