No Choke Job Here: Jimmy Walker Defends at Sony Open

I have to be honest: I didn’t see much of Jimmy Walker’s redemptive defense of his Sony Open title. I like many sports fans was captivated by NFL Championship Sunday.

But unlike the Green Bay Packers, Walker didn’t take a bite of the apple and choke away another victory. Sorry Seattle fans the Seahawks didn’t win that game, the Packers lost it, choked it away.jimmy walker 2 sony

But Walker proved that he had what it takes to bounce back from his own personal choke job at last week’s Tournament of Champions. Squandering his lead last week had to be on his mind at sometime yesterday but he showed no signs of it on the course.

He started the day with a two shot lead and after loosening up with seven pars he put the hammer down pulled away from the field.

He shot seven under par over the last eleven holes and tied for the low round of the day with a 63 (Rory Sabbatini).

Walker’s win is his fourth in his last 32 starts and a definite force on the PGA Tour.

He’s 36 so we really can’t call him one of the “young guns” but he is certainly one of the “new guns” that will be shaping the future of the PGA Tour while the old guard marches into the history books.
