Jimmy Walker & Cristie Kerr: Not Just Another Win

Jimmy Walker made it look easy at The Valero Texas Open yesterday. As Jordan Spieth tried to gain some ground, Walker just kept playing solid golf and it gave the hometown winner his fifth win in 18 months, that’s impressive.  jimmy walker texas

Walker has moved to top ten in the world, has blossomed into a weekly contender, leads the FedEx Cup with his two wins but nine out of ten fans couldn’t pick him out of a lineup. As usual, now the pressure is on Walker to do it on a major stage. He finished in the top ten in three of last year’s majors so don’t be surprised if he breaks through.

Walker was the only player who finished in double digits under par at TPC San Antonio. That course played tough all week but on Thursday it resembled an Open Championship. With the wind blowing 40 mph plus, score ballooned and many players in the morning wave we taken out of the tournament.

Cristie KerrIt was a blast from the past on the LPGA Tour yesterday as 37 year old Cristie Kerr won at The Kia Classic. All the talk around the LPGA Tour has been concentrated on the youth movement with Lydia Ko and Lexi Thompson but don’t think that doesn’t resonate with Kerr. There is no more determined player on the tour than Kerr.

Kerr was playing with a heavy heart as her caddie’s father had recently passed away. Kerr had dedicated this week to him and said she would get it done. Yes, very determined for sure.

This was Kerr’s first win since the 2013 Kingsmill Classic and she is ready for more. She has her personal life settled with her young son and a new coach and to hear her tell it there is plenty left in her tank. After all, 37 used to be the prime of a golfers’ career. There’s more to the LPGA than teenagers.
