Painful news for world number one Rory McIlroy: he has ruptured a ligament in his ankle.
Rory posted on Instagram a picture of him on crutches with a boot covering his left ankle with this caption: Total rupture of left ATFL (ankle ligament) and associated joint capsule damage in a soccer kickabout with friends on Saturday. Continuing to assess extent of injury and treatment plan day by day. Rehab already started….. Working hard to get back as soon as I can.
He was scheduled for to play in the Scottish Open this week as a warm up for a try at his fifth major at the Open Championship which starts next week.
His spokesman says he hasn’t ruled out playing in the Open at this time.
Rory and Jordan Spieth had been 6-1 favorites for the Open according to Ladbrokes.com.
