Jordan Spieth Sizzles at The John Deere Classic

So you are Danny Lee and you’re still riding high from your first PGA win last week at The Greenbrier. And you come out in the third round of the John Deere Classic and light it up with a nine under, 62 to capture the lead and you’re in great shape to go back to back. Right?

Yes, under normal circumstances Lee would be in wonderful position to earn his second win in so many weeks.

But there is a phenomena going on in golf right now that made Lee’s performance today seem like an afterthought. That phenomenon is named Jordan Spieth and he was at it again today shooting lights out, doing things no human should and stealing the spotlight form Lee.spieth deere 2015

Spieth bettered Lee by a stroke with a ten under 61 and leads him by two strokes.

Well, Spieth has made it a habit of hogging the spotlight from everyone, including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Lee and anyone else who dares to put peg in the ground while he’s on the course.

Ever since Spieth won this tournament in 2013 in a playoff it has been all Jordan all the time. Since then he’s played in the Presidents Cup, The Ryder Cup, won three more tournaments including this year’s Masters and U.S. Open. Oh and he’s become not just an American hero but a worldwide celebrity.

And he’s done it all with grace, humility and a maturity not found in your normal twenty one year old.

Spieth was criticized by some for playing this week at the John Deere instead of heading over to St. Andrews to get a jump on some Open Championship practice. But Spieth was given a sponsor’s exemption in 2013 by the folks at The John Deere and he wasn’t about to turn his back on the people who helped him get his start. I bet Danny Lee is wishing Spieth was so honorable.

A wise man once told me, “Just remember who you are.” And Jordan Spieth certainly does.

Take a look at the highlights from Spieth’s sizzling 61 which includes two eagles, six birdies and no bogeys. It was an amazing round. But that is what we have come to expect from Spieth.
