Spieth Just Continues to Amaze

Jordan Spieth has picked up right where he left off from last year.  He sizzled again at Kapalua’s Plantation Course shooting an eight under 65 to get him to -24 and a five stroke lead over Brooks Koepka.spieth TOC

On Friday Spieth joked how it would be great to get to 32 under par and beat Ernie Els’ tournament record by a shot.  But he did so with a smile on his face.  Well, The Golden Child, as buddy Justin Thomas nicknamed him, isn’t far from doing just that.

On his way to -24 yesterday he drove the ball well, putted like a fiend and when he hit a few less than perfect shots in the middle of the round he recovered to control the damage.  His bogey at the par three eighth was his lone bogey of the tournament.  But when you surround that with seven birdies and then finish it out with an eagle, nearly an albatross, on eighteen one mere misstep doesn’t matter.

The scary thing is that while Spieth’s short game has been spot on with chip ins and a bunch of amazingly close shots he says he has neglected his short game in his down time.  What can we expect when he gets to practice with that wedge?

Normally, watching this tournament from the couch is a treat just for the beautiful Hawaiian setting.  But watching Spieth back in mid-season form already has made it extra special.
