Paul Azinger Comes Back to the Booth

Good news for every golf fan: Paul Azinger is coming back to work.

According to reports, first reported by Jaime Diaz, and he never gets it wrong, Azinger will be the new analyst for Fox Sports replacing the recently departed Greg Norman.azinger ryder cup

“Zinger” is a voice dearly missed. He has a resume that few analysts can match: he is actually a winning former Ryder Cup Captain. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg that is Azinger.

Azinger is a rare breed among analysts as he never sugar coats his opinion and that opinion is usually outside the box as they say.

Some of the best golf repartee took place when Azinger was teamed with Nick Faldo on ABC’s golf coverage and the two former on course combatants continued their rivalry in the booth.

It was Azinger’s radical “Pod System” approach that enabled his 2008 U.S Ryder Cup Team to beat Faldo’s team and finally break a European Team strangle hold on the cup.

Azinger’s lone major championship victory came in a playoff at the 1993 PGA Championship. He defeated Greg Norman in one of the many heartbreaking losses for Norman.

Looks like Azinger won this one too.

  1. Fox made the right choice with Azinger, for sure. Too bad Fox hasn’t cleaned house and removed the bulk , if not all, of it;’s other on air talking heads. Norman was terrible , a tongue tied narcissist but he wasn’t the only problem wth those USGA events last year, just the biggest underperforming name. Fox should dump Joe Buck. This guys anodyne voice and superficial knowledge of the game add zilch to the broadcast . I think our best hope for excitement from Buck is when ‘Zinger hauls off and slugs him on air when he just can’t stand the guy any longer.
