This image says it all. Henrik Stenson shoots a record tying 63 to tie Johnny Miller for a final round in a major to win the OPEN Championship. His 264 is the lowest in OPEN Championship history. And in OPEN Championship fashion he’s wished a “Well Done and See You At Royal Birkdale”. No one does it like the OPEN Championship.
Stenson’s scorecard show 10 birdies, TEN BIRDIES. Offset by two bogeys his 63 puts him in the rarest of company. But consider this: he three putted twice! A single three putt puts him at 62…if he doesn’t three putt at all it’s a 61. And he still only needed 27 putts on his way to his historic round. I’m sure he’s not disappointed but it just shows how well he played overall.
This image shows the real camaraderie that Stenson and Mickelson showed during their final round classic. Both showed great class and sportsmanship and were so very complimentary of each other. It’s how the game should be played.
This is what every European player dreams of. The OPEN Championship is their major and holding that Claret Jug as Champion Golfer of the Year is a dream come true.
